NATIONAL COUNCIL OF WOMEN.

There was a small attendance at the monthly meeting of the National Council of Women owing to the inclement weather. Miss Runciman (vice-president) reported that owing to a lack of time at the Christchurch conference, she could not present the paper prepared by Professor Strong on the Homo Economics Association and kindred organisations—namely, a scheme pf co-operation. She had therefore sent copies to the Dominion secreetary, and to the editor of their special page in The Mirror. Miss Hasten, the editor of The‘Mirror, had requested permission to print and add the photograph of Professor Strong, and this had been arranged.—The council endorsed the action taken, and thanked Miss Runciman. Three members undertook to distribute the report of the Auckland Child Welfare Conference. The ill-effects of motor-trawling and the destruction of fishing and breeding grounds near the shore was brought forward.—lt was decided to inquire at various places in New Zealand and learn the conditions. It was stated that irreparable damage to breeding grounds had been done in other countries through the use of motor-driven nets. The conference decided that representatives of various committees of the International Council of Women be elected in every branch, the convener to be the woman appointed by the International Council of Women at the quinquennial '■ongress. These, committees will form the" New Zealand standing committees. The following appointments were then made: Equal moral standard, Mrs R. Alexander; tlie press, Mrs Downing: child welfare, Mrs Moreton; public health. Miss Gow ; peace and arbitration, Mrs Leech (convener for New Zealand); trades and professions. Miss Runciman; immigration, Mr Bridgman. Further appointments were left over.
