(Received May 1, at 5.5 p.m.) The Duke of York is sponsoring an appeal for a fund of £1,000,000 on behalf of national playing fields. The movement, which is being launched on June 1, is designed to provide a minimum of five acres of public open spaca for every 1000 persona. At present 94 towns with a population of 7,000,000 possess a football ground to every 8000, a cricket pitch to every 11,000, and two lawn tennis courts to every 12,000. —A. and N.Z. Cablo.
