MAN’S TRAGIC DEATH. (Per United Press Association.) FEILDING, April 29. Tragic circumstances surrounded the death of James Louis Raine, aged 40, at Kimbolton. He had evidently been seized with an epileptic fit, to which ho was subject, while alone in a house, and had fallen face downwards into the fire, which he iiad just lighted. He was found deari with his neck on tho fire bar, and his face over the fire. The medical evidence was to the effect that death was due to asphyxia. The deceased was a single man, and lived alone, BOY’S LEG AMPUTATED. (Pun United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, April 29. It was found necessary this morning to amputate the right leg below the knee o< Donald Reid, aged 15, a victim of a recent motor accident. POWER BOARD WORKER ELECTROCUTED. {Fbom Oub Own Coilbespondbnt.) ALEXANDRA, April 29. A single man named John Lyons, 25 years of ago, in the employ of the Central Otago Electric Power Board, was electrocuted tiffs morning. The accident happened at the transformer station at Earnscleugh while Lyons was engaged putting in a pole near tho transformer. Apparently the deceased £ame in contact with a live wire carrying 6000 volts. MRS RBKOWSKI’S DEATH. An inquest concerning the Health of Mrs Mary Rckowski, who died suddenly at her residence, 561 Cargill road, was hold at the Morgue yesterday before Air J. R. Bartholomew, S.M., sitting as coroner. Constable Schruffer represented tho police. August Rckowski, who identified the body ns that of his Into wife, said he was a labourer, and resided at 561 Cargill road. The deceased was 55 years of age, and resided with him. They had resided in Dunedin since March 15 last. Prior to that they had lived at Milton, and while there the deceased had been attended by several doctors. She did not have good health. Last Wednesday she wont to bed about 8 p.m. Witness followed about half an hour later. She was coughing a good bit, and asked witness to go to another room so that lie could get some real. Iff' did so. He heard nothing further during the night, but when he went into his wife’s room at 5.25 the following morning he found the deceased’s body lying ou the floor. Site was attired in a nightgown, and the body was cold. Dr Murray was sent for. and arrived in about half an hour. Dr A. Murray Drcrman, Professor of Pathology, Otago University, said he held a post mortem examination on the body of the deceased. There was coarse froth exuding from tho mouth, and the tongue was between tho lips. There wore no marks of recent external injury. The brain was dropsical, and the blood vessels at the base were thick and rigid. The lungs were markedly dropsical, and the heart was much enlarged* In both pleural cavities and in the heart sac was an excess of clear dropsical fluid. Tho kidneys showed chronic nephritis, with much thickening of the blood vessels ami diminution of kidney substance. In witness's opinion deceased died from cerebral haemorrhage—the result of a rupture ot diseased blood vessels. There was also an old-standing disease (arteriosclerosis) of the blood vessels of the body and of the kidneys and heart. A verdict of death in accordance with the medical evidence was returned. KNOCKED DOWN BY MOTOR OAR. When crossing Crawford street shortly after 6 p.m. yesterday a man named W. H. Samson was knocked down by a motor car. He was admitted to the Hospital to receive treatment for a cut over one eye and slight bruises. HOTEL BALCONY ACCIDENT. The Hospital authorities reported last night that there was little change in the condition of Miss Olwyn Davies, who received serious injuries through a fall from a balcony at the roar of the Carlton Hotel on Saturday night last.
