EMPLOYER EXTENDS LENIENCY. FATHER EXPRESSES GRATITUDE.
(Peb United Pbess Association.) AUCKLAND, April 29. A youthful apprentice told the Aibitration Court yesterday that, as an excuse for absence from work, he informed bis employer that his young lady's father was giving a bit of trouble, and he was going to her home to protect the womenfolk. it was all lies, ho admitted. “I had a sore back, and did nut want the boss to think 1 was a weakling-. 1 went straight to my own homo to bed." Mr Justice Frazer impressed upon the lad that honesty was always the best policy in such matters, ns the lad's action had placed the lady's father in a false light. The apprentice had been subjected to a period of unemployment as the result of nis untruths, but the enieployer thereon agreed to take him back and give him another chance. The lad's father was sr pleased with this outcome that he went up to the bench and shook hands with his Honor.
