FRANCE'S POPULATION

RESTORATION TO PRE-WAR LEVEL. SLIGHT DECLINE OF BIRTHRATE. (Preu 'Mediation—By Xdegrapb—Copyngnt ) PARIS, April 28. (Received April 29, at 8 p.m.) Official statistics show that France’s pre-war population is gradually being re stored. Her population was 40,745,000 last year, compared with 39,200,000 in 1920, and 41,470,000 in 1913. There has been a silght but steady increase every year since the war. Contrary to the popular belief the birthrate has not strikingly declined. It was 188 per 10,000 in 1926, compared with 192 in 1913. The infant deathrate is still comparatively high, though in 20 departments it was below that in 1925.—A. and N.Z. Cable.
