A NELSON LETTER.

MR MOSS DAVIS’S GIFT TO AUCKLAND. (pEOM OtJB OWH COEBBSPONDENT-J LONDON, March 23. Mr Moaa Davia, having the City of Auckland in mind, ha« purchased at Christie’s an original letter written byLord Nelson a few weeks before the Battle of Trafalgar. Mr Davis has decided to present this letter to the Auckland City Council for the citizens of Auckland. The High Commissioner, to whom it has been banded, suggests that the document should be placed in the manuscript section of the Public Library. In this letter, which is written in ; very clear hand, Nelson gives instructions to one of his captains. It is dated: “Victory, October 15, 1805 ’’ “Sir,” writes the grev*. _dmiral, “you will, with the Agamemnon, take a station west from Cadiz from 7 to 10 leagues, b\ which means, if the enemy should move, I hope I have instant information as two or three ships will be kept as at present between the Ueet and your two ships, an it seems thought by Captain Blackwood that a ship or two may attempt to drive the frigates off, and if that should be the case you will be at hand to assist. I am, sir, with great respect, your most faithful and obedient servant.”

The letter is addressed to Captain Grosse Hope, and signed Nelson and Bront*.
