PRISONER’S ESCAPE
FOURTH SIMILAR EXPLOIT. ‘ OLD RUSE SUCCEEDS. (Pres? Asseciation--By Telegraph—Copyrigl t ) SYDNEY, April 7. (Received April 7, at 9 p.m.) A prisoner named Herbert Stanley made a sensational escape from the Darlinghurst Courthouse. Tic was brought from prison to receive his sentence, and was waiting in the corridor below the dock, when he obtained permission from a constable to visit a lavatory, from which he failed to return. It was discovered that he made his way up into the adjoining empty court through a trapdoor in the dock, which had inadvertently been left open. Thence he reached the street and got clear away. This is Stanley’s fourth escape from custody—twice by jumping from moving trains. Motor buses such as rim on the London streets now pav an annual tax of £IOB, an increase of £34 on last year’s payment.
