STATE ELECTIONS
KEEN CONTEST IN SOUTH AUSTRALIA. THE PRELIMINARY RETURNS. (Pre«» Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. > ADELAIDE, March 28. The general elections of South Australia resulted in a keen contest. The latest available figures give the LiberalCountry Party 24 scats and Labour 22. The main question at issue between the parties was the financial position, particularly the loss of over £50p,000 on the railways. Counting in Local Option, the polls arc not far enough advanced to give any indication of the result. LABOUR GOVERNMENT DEFEATED. ADELAIDE, March 28. (Received March 28, at 11.50 p.m.) The latest election returns are as follows Liberals, 22; Country Party, 5; Labour, 17; Independent, 2. Mr R. L. Butler (Leader of the present Liberal Opposition) will be the new Premicr.
