WAR NARROWLY AVERTED. forged state documents. (Press Association—By Telegraph-Copyright.) NEW YORK, March 27. (Received March 28, at 8 p.m.) The Washington correspondent of the New York Times states that the United States has narrowly escaped a series crisis in its relatione with Mexico. It is understood that forged documents bearing the signature of Mr IE B. Kcllog and other officials of the American Government, ostensibly containing instructions from the State Department to the American Ambassador in Mexico, and purporting to show that the United States planned war on Mexico, or sought to foment revolution in that country, fell into the hands of President Calles. A prominent American journalist visiting President Calles was shown these documents as convincing evidence of America's had faith in her relations with Mexico The journalist suggested that President Calles should inform President Goolidge, and an exchange of notes disclosed the documents to be spurious. It is not certain whether the perpetrator's identity is known. —A. and N.Z. Cable.
