TAPANUI NOTES.

(From Due Own Correspondent.) TAPANUI, March 23. The death of Mrs James Barclay, which occurred at her residence ‘Toropuke,’’ Kelso, came as a shock to her many friends throughout tho district. The deceased, who was the eldest daughter of Mrs and the late Mr John Haugh, of Dunrobin, had lived practically all her life in tho district, and was greatly esteemed. The burial took place at Crookston Omctary. The monthly meeting of the local branch of the Plunket Society was held in the Plunket room on Friday afternoon. Mrs O. Fraser presided, and there Were present: Mesdamea W. M'Leod, E. Arnold, J. C. Cameron, W. R. Quin, T. Craigle, and A. M'Leod (secretary). The collectors handed in their books with subscriptions, the total amounting to £23 Is 6d, with other amounts promised. It was agreed to alter the nurse’s visiting day to Friday, Nurse Burnett remaining in future in Heriot on Thursday of each week. The annual meeting will bo held on April s. Mr J. Nolan, of the railways staff, is at present on annual leave, his position being taken by Mr A. Wilkinson, of the Bluff office. , Miss Mary Fleming, who has been postmistress at Crookston for the past eight years, is relinguishing the position at the end of tho month. Miss Rene Lusk has been appointed to the position.
