NEW GUINEA MURDERS
CAPTURED NATIVES ESCAPE. FATAL RESISTANCE TO AUTHORITY. (Press Association —By Telegraph—Copyright.) SYDNEY, January 24. A wireless message from Bulolo states that a native sub-chief and several other natives who were captured in connection with the recent murders and taken to Salamoa, escaped, and returned to a Rabaul village. A Government party, which was. despatched to recapture them, was met by 500 armed warriors and compelled to fire, killing eight natives. No further molestations are expected.
