MAURICE MOSCOVITCH.
A theatrical event of importance is the visit of Maurice Moscovitch and a brilliant J C. Williamson Dramatic Company, who will open a season of seven nights at His Majesty’s Theatre on Saturday evening next. The company supporting the star includes Ellen Pollock, Margaret Murrav, Ken Brandon, and Alex. Sarner, all of whom were brought from prominent English successes. Other clover people with the show are: Nat Madison, Eileen Sparks, Kerrio Kelly, Kiore King, George Blunt, Reginald Newson, J. B. Atholwood. John Harper, and Leslie Donaghy. The opening play is Sydney Howard’s terrific dramatic hit, “They Knew What They Wanted,’’ to be staged for two nights only. Recently produced in Sydney, the Sunday News says: “It. is a powerfully realistic play written rtl 'tho key of Nature, with all tho ‘i's’ dotted and the “t’s” crossed, so that there is no question of mistaking tho author’s meaning. It deals with the primitive passions of human nature, and in the last act the veil of conventional decency is rudely torn aside to exnoso tho sexual relationship to which society is supposed to be blind. All through the piece was acted with . distinction by Maurice Moscovitch and his well-drilled companv. Thov are real people in the play., people humanly felt. It has tense situations and is a problem play that will arouse a great deal of discussion.’’ The second prodn*«tion, for two nights, is a revival of the wellknown play “Trilby.’’ When it was recently staged in Sydney after many years, the critic of tho Sunday Times said: “The part of Bvengali in the hands of Moscovitch, tho man from out of tho East, became a sinister figure dominating the situation and bending Trilby to his own designs by reason of his mesmeric hold over her. The dark-eyed mvstio who dreamed a career for the little model. Trilby, the magician, lived in tho voice and feature of Moscovitch The tensely dramatic scenes throughout the play wore sustained at a high level, and the little comedy reliefs wore etched ,'n with the touch of a master. Moscovitch has done some fine work during his visit here, but his delineation of Sventra!i stands out ns a superb presentation. Ellen Pollock plavs tho part, of Trilby.” This will be, followed by “Tho Fake” for two nights.
