UNDERSIZED TROUT.
TWO MEN PEOSECUTED. Charles Grey was charged before Mr H. W. Bundle, S.M., at the City Police Court yesterday, with having taken from the Water of Leith, on December 30, undersized trout, and pleady guilty. Mr K. M. S. Sinclair, who appeared for the Otago Acclimatisation Society, said the ranger (Mr Pellett) had been on a visit to the Upper Leith, and had come across accused with four fish measuring under 9in in his possession. Accused said that when he took the trout he did not measure them. They appeared to be 9in. Mr Sinclair remarked that they were just under 9in, the smallest being SJin. Offences of this kind were becoming pretty prevalent. The rod had a 9in measure on it. Defendant was fined 40s, with costs (7s) and solicitor’s fee (fl Is). Gordon Walker was charged with taking one trout from the Leith, under the proper measurement. Mr Sinclair said that the fish measured only 7Jin, and Mr Pellett had seen defendant catch the fish. There was a measure on defendant’s rod. Defendant had been perfectly frank about the matter. The case was dismissed, subject to defendant paying the expenses incurred by the Acclimatisation Society.
