RESTAURANTS AND CABARETS. PROPRIETORS THREATEN TO CLOSE. (Pre«. Association —By Telegraph-Copyright.) PARIS, January 22. There is a possibility of many business places in the Montmartre district being closed in the event of the Government not reducing the luxury tax of 38 per centum on restaurants and cabarets. There is almost an entire absence of foreign visitors, caused by heavy losses, and the proprietors have passed a resolution to the effect that if the tax is not reduced by Wednesday their establishments will be closed in a fortnight as a protest. Meantime unemployment, is spreading u France. —Sydney Sun Cable.
