DOMINION CHAMPIONSHIPS. (Feb United Association.) PALMERSTON N., January 21. Tho Dominion croquet championships were commenced to-day in glorious weather. Tho competitors were welcomed by tho Dominion president, Mr C. Caughley, who remarked that the entries were a ‘ record, and the standard of the competitors equal to that of previous years. Tho surprise of the day was the defeat of Mrs Johnson (Christchurch) and Mr G. Cauphley (Wellington) by Mrs Gnmbriell (Manawatu) and Colonel Ilumo (Nelson; 26—0, Tho latter pair arc comparatively new players as far a,- _ tournaments arc concerned, while Mr Caughley has Held the open singles championship and his partner has on three occasion.- been the ladies’ champion.
