THE RELIGIOUS FORCE. TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —Your correspondent “D. B, F.” in Wednesday’s issue is entirely wrong when he states that the greatest force in life is tlie religious. Religious force is an instinct, nothing more, and is based on fear, the fear of the unknown, and should be controlled like all instincts by rationalism, which is the only quality that has raised man to his present higfi position. Tho countries that are most progressive are those in which religion counts for little. Religion has always been, and still is, an obstacle in the path of progress.—l am, etc., M.
