CHEMISTS AND DRUGGISTS.
In a wholesale and manufacturing direction 'ocal chemists and druggists have experienced a good year. Manufacturing in Dunedin on an extended scale is somewhat limited, so far as the number of firms go. One manufacturing chemist informed a Daily Times reporter that on the whole he considered that the wholesale drug trade during the past year had been quite equal to that of the previous year. He added that there was every evidence of trade continuing brisk throughout the coming year. Summarised, his opinion was that toilet luxuries had been in great demand. and large quantities of these had been quitted. Perume sprays and toilet soaps, and a few other lines were, to use his own words, “going at top." He commented very favourably on the make up of imported goods, and said that toilet preparations were reaching New Zealand from Great Britain, France, and America, ana, durin ; the last year or two. Germany. Each firm had its distinctive _ lines, and those from France were becoming increasingly popular. So far as local productions were concerned the demand had been well maintained. In the retail trade the opinion expressed by more than one of the leading dispensing chemists was that the business, as a whole during the year 1926. had been equal to that of 1925. and in some respects better. One chemist expressed the opinion that the increase in business was. at any rate. 10 per cent. There has, so far as can be judged by inquiry. been an increase in the preparation of prescriptions, which may be partly accounted for by an occasional visit of some special form of sickness. There has been a steady demand for toilet requisites, and the demand shows an increasing tendency. Face powders, and skin beautifiers have been in great demand.
