MIDGETS' MAGIC.
“A remarkable entertainment” is the heading given to a northern contemporary’s critique on the big show which Messrs Ralph Palermo and Irvine Tishman will present, for a short season only, commencing at His Majesty’s Theatre with a matinee on Monday next. The paper goes on to say; “Irving’s Imperial Midgets, 15 cheery Lilliputians, and the great illusionist, Chefalo, form the brightest, most enjoyable, and interestsustaining vaudeville entertainment that has performed at the local Opera House for many a long day. It is altogether a most delightful show—one that will please the most cynical and the most critical of theatregoers. Keen interest was manifested in the appearance of the tiny folk. These little people give a complete revue programme, from the opening parade of the blue and red toy soldiers, and songs, dances, and novelty items. The Midgets are all and more than has been said of them—they are all perfectly foi'med, and there is nothing grotesque about them or their act. Chefalo and his supporting company also made an excellent impression. One has seen illusionists and entertainers who have presented acts of a similar nature, but in all sincerity the honours go to this magician, whose dealings with the black art have the accompaniment of wonderful scenery and effects. There are some gorgeous Eastern drapings that lend an atmosphere which is quite different from anything else. In short, it is really impossible to describe Chefalo’s act. The combined entertainment is one that is recommended to the public as absorbingly interesting from the rise to no fall of the curtain. It is not since the famous Tiny Town company were here that there has been such a good entertainment as the Imperial Midgets offer—it is a similar type of show—and never before probably has such such a master showman as Chefalo visited us.”
