On Saturday and Sunday last the closing events of the Girl Citizens’ year took place at the Y.W.O.A. By 7.30 p.m. on Saturday the large hall was filled with Girl Citizens and their mothers, who were received by Mrs W. Stevenson, junior, and Miss Hall, girls’ work secretary. An enjoyablc programme was provided by the Girl Citizens, The members of the Tiki section, winners of the dramatics contest in the' recent sectional contest, presented their dramatisation of the story “The Batch of Blue.' Miss Nellie Caskey, who won the story-telling event, gave * The Quest for Jewels," a solo was _ given by Miss Netta Wilkie, and a recitation by Miss Ellen Millar, and the rest of the evening was spent in games. A Christmas tree was loaded with gifts from the Girl Citizens, which will in due time gladden the hearts of various poor children in the city. During supper Miss Hall expressed the pleasure of the association in welcoming so many mothers of Girl Citizens, and hoped that this would be the first of many occasions on which they would meet together. The sports shield was then presented to the Rawhiti section, and the Reka Reka section was announced as the winner of the banner for the sectional contest. On Sunday afternoon a community gathering was held, the hall being beautifully decorated with white roses and arum lilies. Several Girl Citizens were enrolled. Miss Hall spoke on •‘Stocktaking " After the ceremony, and combined tea church parade was held at Knox Church. The following were elected to represent the community at the Girl Citizen Conference at Christchurch in January Misses Mabel ln (Chief Citizen), Bertha Clement, Eva Moss, Vera Darkson, Evelyn Goodman, and Florrie Rensbaw.
