PRINCELY PENSIONS
HIGH OFFICIALS FAVOURED. PITTANCES FOR WAR CRIPPLES. (Press Association—By Telegraph-Copyright.) LONDON, December 9. (Received Dec. 10, at 9 p.m.) A message from Berlin states that a confidential memorandum of the Finance Ministry shows that generous pensions have been given to officials and high officers as compared with pittances granted to war cripples. One hundred ex-Chanccllors and cxMinistcrs receive on an average £2OOO apiece, including Herr Michaelis, who held the Chancellorship for three months, and has an income of £ISOO a year. Herr Cuno has a pension of £IOOO, though he also receives £15,000 as manager of a prosperous steamship line. Dr Luther, in addition to a pension, receives £SOOO as Director of the State railways. Fifteen hundred ox-gencrals and 100 ex-admirals share £2,000,000 per annum.—A. and N.Z. Cable.
