BRITISH COAL STRIKE
THE IMPRISONED MINERS. STRONG PLEA FOR AMNESTY. (Frets A ssoclation— By Telegraph Cnpyrighr.) LONDON, December 9. (Received Dec. 1.0, at 9 p.m.) In the House of Commons, following up appeals which were made to Mr Baldwin yesterday to release the coal strikers. Mr J. H. Thomas begged the Government to do the right thing. Many of the strikers, ho said, were the vietims of cir cumstances. Mr Thomas pleaded with the Government to release the men before Christ- as for the sake of their wives and children. Sir Douglas Hogg (Attorney-general) undertook to convey the appeal for (he granting of an amnesty for those in prison to Earl Birkenhead, who is acting as Home Secretary while Sir W. Joyn-Son-Hicks is ill, but he said he could not give a promise.—A. and N.Z. Cable.
