CHARGE OF MURDER.
THE OPOTIKI TRAGEDY. ACCUSED BEFORE THE COURT, (Pee United Pbess Association.) GISBORNE, December 9. John Sullivan, who was arrested at Opotiki last week and charged with tne murder of Jeremiah Williams, appeared before Mr Hendrys, S.M., this morning. On the application of the police he was remanded till December 16. It was stated in previous reports of the affair that accused loft Opotiki in a 1 taxi with John Sullivan, aged 50 years, and travelled two miles past Torere* Williams’s body was found in the scrub two chains past the spot where the taxi stopped. His head was badly battered. Sullivan had a bottle of whisky in his hand when arrested, and was talking wildly. He is alleged to have said L o Drake, the postmaster at Torere; “I’ve killed my mate,” but denied the killing when arrested.
