The Petit Parisien says that the result of the Geneva discussions may be that the date of the withdrawal of the Inter 'Hied Control Commission will be fixed after the demolition of the Koenigsberg fortifications. The Echo de Paris says that M. Briand designs a special control of the demilitarised zone by the five signatories to the Rhineland Pact. —A. and N.Z. Cable. CONVERSATIONS CONTINUED. NOVEL GERMAN PROPOSAL. GENEVA, December 7. (Received Dec. 8, at 9 p.m.) Private conversations between Sir Austen Chamberlain, M. Briand, and Dr Strescmann were continued to-day. It is understood that the Germans again raised the question of extending the League’s military control over nil the European Powers as part of the disarmament programme. They even broached the inclusion of the French side of the ■Rhino in the zone. Signor Scialoja, contrary to his usual custom, has his headquarters in a small suburban hotel, and is adopting an attitude of isolation while awaiting overtures from France on the one hand and from Germany on the other. In the meantime his Government in Rome is reported to be bolding back the treaty with Germany pending the developments at Geneva. Munir Bey, the Turkish Minister in Berne, appeared on the scene as an official observer, though there arc no Turkish questions on the agenda.—A. and N./j. Cable. A COMPROMISE REPORTED. CONTROL LIKELY TO END IN JANUARY. LONDON, December 8. (Received Dec. 8, at 8 p.m.) The Paris correspondent of the Daily Mail says it is reported from Geneva that M. Briand and Dr Stresemann have reached a compromise, as a result of which the present Allied military control of the Rhineland will probably end in January.—A. and N.Z. Cable.
