This was adjourned from the annual meeting in June for three months to allow of certain repairs and improvements being carried out. Meantime a dispute arose between the landlord (J. F. At the September meeting the solicitor for the applicant stated that an agreement had been come to in the matter, and that the work would be carried out by the December meeting of the committee. Mr Gilkison appeared for the landlord and Mr Harlow for the applicant. Inspector Cameron said that the police objection was that the necessary drainage had not been carried out, the work having been commenced only on Monday. The other requirements had been carried out in a way. Applicant had put off doing the drain till he got a ring from his solicitors telling him he must make a move immedi-ately-put on 20 men if possible. Applicant said the laving of the pipee was well under way when he left the hotel the previous day at 8.15 a.m., and it should be about finished. A licensed drainer and plumber, two boys, and himself had been engaged on the job. The other requirements had been carried out. After evidence was given by Sergeant Lennon and the position generally reviewed, the application was granted. As a result of certain police statements the Chairman said the committee wished it to be distinctly understood that if any complaints reached it at the next meeting regarding Sundav trading, licensees would be given notice to appear at the Juna meeting to show cause why the license should not be refused. In places where there was no police supervision licensees had to bo trusted or else they would be turned out.
