(Fbou Odr Own Correspondent.) MILTON, December 6. BOWLING. Four rinks from the Balclutha Club visited Milton on Saturday for the South Ota"o Association’s Honours Board competition. Great interest was centred m the match owing to the fact that both clubs had two victories to their credit. The came resulted in a victory for Milton bv 15 points—Milton 82, Balclutha 67. The 'following are the scores (Milton names first): —: , Morris, Duncan, Davanney, Welhey 19, Marshall, Neill, Angelo, Mijkr, 20; M’Cormack, Bedford, Holhck, Cuff 15, Colbert, Sheddon, Hayward, M‘Asmara 19; Adamson, Smith, Riddel, Henderson 24. Wyber, Haggar, Kirby, Stewart 10; Currie, Moroney, Farrell, Powley 24, Wyber, Simm, Johnston, Watson 18. OPENING OF GOLF LINKS. The Toko Golf Club’s new links, situated on the Toko Domain grounds, were officially opened on Saturday afternoon in fine weather. There was a large muster of local players. At the outset practice was indulged in with two-ball foursome games, after which an adjournment was made to the pavilion on the Toko Farmers’ Club’s show grounds, where afternoon tea was dispensed by lady members. The links, which were designed by Mr Basil Smith, were officially declared open by the club’s president, Mr R. M. Rutherford. ■ , . .... ‘ Putting and approaching competitions were then indulged in, for which golf balls were given as trophies. The ladies approaching competition was won by Mrs J. C. Vidal, with Miss K. F. M’Laren second; and the men’s competition by Mr C. Hitchon, with Mr T. Clayton second. The ladies’ putting competition was won by Miss H. Hislop, with Miss 1.. Brown second; men’s competition by Mr C. Hitchon, with Mr L. W. Potter second. To conclude the opening celebrations, a putting competition was played between the highest ladies and highest men, in which the latter won by two points. GENERAL. The Coronation Hall was well filled last night at the sacred concert given after the church services by the M.M.8.8. Orchestra. The programme submitted by the orchestra, under the conductorship of Mr John H. Weils, met with hearty appreciation. Grateful recognition of the gratuitous services rendered to the Milton Cricket Club in providing hot water for afternoon tea during the summer months was tendered by members on Saturday afternoon, when Mrs D. Sanson was presented with a handsome eight-day drawing-room clock. Two important 'subjects concerning the maintenance of main highways will come before the Bruce County Council at the monthly meeting to-morrow—viz., further consideration of the Otago Motor Club’s scheme, and consideration of the notice of motion to the effect that the cost of main highways’ maintenance be made a charge on the general account instead of on ridings through which the main highways run.
