SWIMMING.
PRIMARY SCHOOLS’ CHAMPIONSHIPS. With 500 entries, it went without saying that the primary schools’ swimming championships, which were held at the Municipal Baths last night, would he a success, and there can be no doubt that they were. Some of the children, particularly the very young ones, showed surprisingly good form, and L. Olds put up a remarkable performance in covering 50 yards in the splendid time of 31sec. No other oustanding times were recorded, however. Out of 50 young divers, the judges had no difficulty in singling out 10 who will dive off in the final to-night. Nevertheless, all the competitors showed a good knowledge of leaving the board and entering the water, and the display, on the whole, was highly creditable. Tonight the finals will be swum off, and some keen racing should be witnessed.
