TRAGEDY OF THE AIR
MECHANIC’S INSTANT DEATH. LONDON. November 22. The London Aero Club’s first fatal accident occurred at the Stag lane aerodrome, C'ricklcwood. A pilot-instructor, Sydney St. Barbe, accompanied by a mechanic, J. Miebie, was flying a Moth at a low altitude, when the engine stalled and the machine crashed. Michie was killed instantly, while St. Barbe was cut about the head, but not dangerously. The Evening Nows states that for the purpose of avoiding such an accident during instruction the Moth was fitted with an electric glow lamp, to give warning when the speed came near stalling point.
