Ministerial. The Hon. A. D. M’Leod (Minister of Lands and Minister of Industries and Commerce) received a number of private deputations at the Grand Hotel on Saturday morning. The Minister left Dunedin by the express for the north on his way to Wellington. Mr C. G. White (Wellington) arrived in Dunedin by the express from the north on Saturday. Mr F. G. Duncan left by the express on Saturday en route to Wellington. Mr E. Branson left by the express on Saturday, en route for Wellington. Mr George Black, who has been on a visit to Invercargill returned to Dunedin on Saturday. Mr A. E. Dsherwood was a passenger by the express for the north on Saturday, en route for Wellington. Mr D. Ardell, of the Department of Internal Affairs, left for Wellington by the express on Saturday. Colonel Sclater, Australia and New Zealand representative for the Canadian Pacific Railway, was a passenger for the north on Saturday en rente to Wellington. Mr A. W. Essex, assistant representative of the Canadian Pacific Railway, went north by the express on Saturday, en route to Auckland. Mr A, H. Wallace, who has been on a visit to Dunedin, went north by the express on Saturday, en route to Wellington. Mr R. A. Rodger was a passenger to Waipahi by the express on Saturday night, on route to Tananui. Mr R. W. Hall. Mayor of St. Kilda, was a passenger by the express for the north on Saturday, on route to Wellington. Mr John M’Donald, who has been on a visit to Invercargill, returned to Dunedin by the express on Saturday. Mr O. Kent, town clerk, Oamaru, returned home by the express on Saturday. Mr G. Greig, commercial agent for Otago, New Zealand Railways, was a passenger for Oamaru by the express on Saturday. Mr F. D. Morrah (Invercargill) was a through passenger by the express from the north on Saturday. Mr R S. Kent, divisional superintendent of Railways, was a passenger for Christchurch by Saturday’s express. Mr James Hislop, Under-secretary for the Department of Internal Affairs, who has been in Dunedin for the past few days making arrangements for the visit. of the Duke and Duchess of York to this city, loft- by the express on Saturday, en route to Wellington. Captain Hamilton was a passenger by the express from the north on Saturday, cn route to Bluff. Captain Hamilton has arranged to take a survey party from Bluff to the West Coast on an extended tour. Mr Adam Hamilton, M.P., who has been attending a meeting of the Meat Control Board in Wellington, was a through passenger by the express for Invercargill on Saturday. _ . , , Mr Fred Drain, of Messrs John Bright and Brothers, Rochdale, England, arrived by the express on Saturday afternoon on a business trip. . , , , Mr Archibald M'Gavock (Otautau), who has been on a visit to Dunedin, returned home on Saturday afternoon by the express. . . ... Mr R. Sim, who has been on a visit to Dunedin, left by the express on Saturday afternoon, en route to Tapanui. The death is announced of Mrs John Studholme, aged 87 years, at Paris, on December 1 (reports a Christchurch Press Association message). A sister of the late Mr Sefton Moorhouse, she arrived in New Zealand in 1858, and married Mr John Studholme in 1862, later living in Merivale, Christchurch. As a child she was a most extensive traveller, being in Paris during the revolution in 1848, when King Louis Philippe had to abdicate. Later, with her husband, she was in Germany in 1866 throughout the war between Austria and Prussia. The remains of Henry Stephen Baker, who met his death by drowning at Smaill s Beach on November 7, were interred at the Anderson’s Bay Cemetery yesterday afternoon. The funeral was a particularly large one, and was attended by officials of the Otago Cricket Association, club mates of the deceased, and members of the various organisations with which he was connected.
