A CREW’S HEROISM

REFUSAL TO LEAVE SHIP. LONDON, November 22. Amid a terrific gale and with mountainous seas running, the Cunard liner Andania, of 13,950 tons, when 500 miles off the south-west coast of Ireland, stood by the British steamer Aldworth, of 3369 tons, all last night. The Aldworth’s bridge, chart-house, boats, and superstructure were swept away and her engine room and stokehold and two other cargo holds were flooded, but the crew refused to abandon the ship. The damaged vessel is now steaming to Britain under the escort of the Andania, whose captain to-day broadcast his appreciation of the crew’s heroism.
