AUSTRALIAN LABOUR

THE NO-OVERTIME STTHEE. DIRECT NEGOTIATIONS'. (Brest Association—By Telegraph—Copyright) MELBOURNE, December 4. Having disregarded Mr Justice Beeby’a offer, the Waterside Workers’ Federation is now making efforts to effect agreements with the different shiping companies by direct negotiation. Already agreements have been reached with two of the smaller companies. Owing to the strike, delays in the sailings of steamers from various Australian ports are frequent, some being four days behind schedule- Several coastal vessels are laid up, and the crews paid off. Mr Justice Beeby made an offer to the Watersiders’ Federation to have its claims heard by the court on condition that the men resumed normal working conditions forthwith.
