December 27, 29, January 1, i. —Auckland R.C. summer. December 27, 28, 50. —Manawatu Racing Club. December 28, 30, 31.—Auckland Trotting Club. January 1, 3.—Stratford R.C. annual. January 1. —Waikouaiti R.C. annual. January I.—Wyndham R.C. annual. January 3, 4.—Southland R.C. Nominations for the Waikouaiti meeting are due to-morrow. John Bradbury has now the Oaraaru and Methven Cups to his credit. Though the field he led home on Saturday was not a strong one, the fact that he won over the distance would be pleasing to his owner. Arpent is doing everything that is being asked of him, and if form counts for anything he should account for another sprint before long. Count Cavour has not been asked any serious questions lately, but is in the best of health. In view of his Auckland Cup engagement, his work from now on will be of a more strenuous nature. Mr J. F. Buchanan’s two-year-old Marsham, by Martian from Polymnia, brother to Battlement, has been gelded, and will shortly be placed in commission. Holly Boy, who is owned in Wellington and trained by W. J. Tomkinson, is the ruling favourite for the New Zealand Trotting Gold Cup, to be decided at Wellington on Wednesday. Though Desert Glow failed in the Alison Gup at Takapuna, he will have to be reckoned with in the Auckland Cup, in which he is well treated with 7.3. The sensational dividend-payer King Cup has been doing well since Winton, and may now have determined to go on with it. F. W Ellis is building Solzia up into racing shape again, but it will be some time before he is ready to do his best. The much-boomed Schorr has not shown up in his recent outings, but in all proba bilitv the tracks have been against him. He is more than useful when the conditions are to his liking. The owner of Maiwhariti has not yet definitely decided whether or not the pacing gelding will make the trip to Auckland at hristmas time. , He is best suited by a drv track. The popularity of the Gore Trotting Club’s meeting on Boxing Day is reflected in the fine response made by owners. The secretary had the pleasure of receiving what looks like a record number of nominations, and the foundation of a successful meeting has been laid. J. M’Combe is going to find it hard to get another race out of Sunny Loch. The big gelding looked like making* a good hurdler. The nominations for the Auckland Trotting Cup comprise all the best pacers m the Dominion, with the exception of Wai taki Girl. Although Great Bingen is the tightest handicapped horse over two miles in the land, Shiek, Prince Pointer, and Jack Potts have better time records for the journey, while Ahuriri has gone just as fast- . „ At the recent A.J.C. meeting at Randwick, the New Zealand-bred gelding White Fang was made a warm favourite in the field of 20 that contested the Flying Handicap. The favourite was always well up and at the half distance looked a sure winner, but he weakened near the post mm was beaten by the lightly-weighted outsider Orient Princess. ■ Punters were stung at the Wilhamstown races recently (states the Sydney Sun). A plague of dragon flies, mosquitoes, horsestingers, moths, and all kinds of insects swept over the course and took charge of the grandstand. Womenfolk were in deadly fear of being stung, and they had a most uncomfortable time. For some of the punters it was a case of being stung both ways. Limerick is ti regular attendant at Ric-. carton each morning, and is being given trotting exercise on the lead. He has built up considerably since his return from Australia, and his affected heel is quickly yielding to treatment. Jones has no intention or hurrying him in his tasks, but hopes to have him in rare buckle for racing in the early autumn. A gratifying feature of the nominations for the Auckland Trotting Club’s summer meeting is the fine array of trotters entered for the Rowe Handicap, an event for straightout trotters, which is one of the leading events on the programme. Most of the best trotters in commission have been nominated, but a notable absentee is Peterwah The imported horse has been nominated for the Auckland Trotting Cup in preference to the Rowe Handicap. , Gene-al Wai, winner of the Aorangi Trial Plate at Feilding, is a seven-year-old son of Waimangu. So far as the Turf Register reveals. General Wai had not _ previously scored a. win, but in seven previous efforts this season he had finished in a place on five occasions. General Wai, it is interesting to note, is inbred to the St. Simon line. His sire. Waimangu, is by Soult (son of St. Simon), while his dam, Longwood, is by Merriwee (son of Bill Portland and grandson of St. Simon). ... It is remarkable how long some trotters retain their form, and the Auckland gelding Amberite is a case in point. As far back as the 1915-16 season he raced as an aged horse, so that he is now into the veteran stage. Yet he is still going strong, his two starts at the Otahuhu meeting producing a win and a second. Moreover, in winning the Innovation Handicap in 4min 51 4-ssec, he recorded the best performance of his career, as well as clipping over 6seo off his handicap time. Ambcnte Has always been a solid plodder and has won numerous races for his popular owner, J. Gee. METHVEN RACING CLUB. ANNUAL MEETING. JOHN BRADBURY WINS CUP. (Fbou Oub Special Correspondent.)
