LOST PROPERTY.
HOUSED AT SCOTLAND YARD. A new lost property office has been built for Scotland Yard in Lambeth road, London. It is an immense red brick building with a frontage of 150 ft and a back - width of 200 ft. ~ „ _ The building is five storeys high. The first floor consists of a maze of corridors flanked on each side with thousands of pigeon-holes of various dimensions capable of holding articles of almost any size. So » large are some of the cabined spaces that a stuffed lion could be housed should one ever be mislaid. Unlike the present office, which contains only three counters, dozens of counters have been erected in the rev office for the display of lost property so that it may be readily identified by the owners. The basement is to be used as a storeroom for stolen motor cars. There is also being built a huge courtyard for testing the skill of a driver of i a public vehicle before a license is issued ' to him, several large garages to house the flying squad vehicles, an equipment, , department, and a _ private station. On the bird floor is a central• ' registry where police licenses for drivers .1 r of public vehicles will be issued, and where : it will be possible in a moment to trace ’ the history of any car or driver registered in the metropolitan area.
