ONTARIO ELECTIONS

. A PROHIBITION DEFEAT. MANDATE FOR GOYERNAIENT SALE. (Preoj Association—Bv telegraph—Copy right. 5 OTTAWA. December 2. The result of the Ontario election brings a great portion of the area and population of Canada under Government sale of liquor from stores. Prohibition still reigns only in the small maritime provinces of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island. Out of 112 members in the House, 80 who have been elected will support Government control of liquor. These are composed of 75 straight-out Conservative followers of the Premier, Mr Ferguson, and five “wet” Independents. The Opposition consists of the Liberals and Progressives. Of the 30 who entered the battle as straight-out Prohibition candidates not one was elected. Mr Raney, a Liberal, and the “dry” leader, was elected by a narrow majority, while Mr Nickle, the former Attorney-General, who deserted Mr Ferguson over the latter’s liquor proposals, was badly beaten.—Sydney Sun Cable.
