HAWKE CUP MATCH. TARANAKI v. WANGANUI, (Per United Press Association.) WANGANUI, December 3. The Hawke Oup match between Taranaki (challengers) and Wanganui was opened today under ideal conditions, the _ Wicket being a trifle soft. Taranaki, winning the toss, batted first for 188, of which Kingston, a former All Black footballer, contributed 64-, made by artistic cricket. His wicket was sacrificed through over-eager-ness when he was caught behind tho stumps. Of the Wanganui bowlers, Bornau, V. Williams, and Holland were most useful. Wells, a young left-hander, proved expensive. With half an hour loft for play Wanganui dpened disastrously by losing Dempster, who got in front to Clarke, while Orr played all over a straight ball from Petty. Two wickets were down for 17 runs when stumps were drawn. Tho following are the details I TARANAKI. First Innings. Neirmith, not out ... ... 0 Grayson, b Bernau ... ...
