A TRAM ACCIDENT.
ACTION AGAINST CORPORA- * TION. PLAINTIFF SECURES DAMAGES. (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, December S. Arising from an accident when a tram stopped suddenly, the pole coming off the overhead wire, Francis Roberts Oakdeu, a storeman, sought damages to the extent of £3OO from the City Corporation at the Supreme Court to-day. While descending the stairs of a double-decker he alleged that he was thrown violently against a portion of the tram and rendered unconscious, He was in hospital for a week, and for 20J weeks was off work. He suffered injuries to his sight, hearing, and nervous system. The defence was a denial of negligence and contended that the accident was one of those happenings which could not be avoided; also that plaintiff was malingering, and was not injured to the extent alleged. Roberts was awarded £l2O damages, with costs on tho lowest scale. His Honor said plaintiff had exaggerated his injuries, but no doubt ho hud had substantial injuries, particularly to his nervous system.
