The three-year-old Battle Colours, from C. Giesler’s stable, looks like paying his way. He wears the same racing jacket as Pull Swing.

Andy jumped faultlessly at Winton, and looked a winner a long way from home. He will be in better-class fields before long. Kilbarry appeared to be a clear winner in the Tradesmen’s Handicap at Winton, but the judge declared it a dead heat with Bilbo. Kilbarry was returning a sensational dividend for a straight-out win._ Mr H. A. Knight, owner of Limerick, returned to Christchurch on Wednesday. When Sweet Melody won the Flying at Winton it was her fifth consecutive win.

Apache finished well in third place each day at Winton, and the Solferino gelding promises to extend his winning record before the coming holiday meetings are over. Goosesteo was sent home to the West Coast on Wednesday. He was accompanied by the three-year-old filly Note, by Paper Money from Elaine, who was purchased during the New Zealand Cup meeting from Mr V. Riddiford by Mr W. Jefferies of Hokitika She will in future be trained by Messrs Donnellan and Shannahan. Commendation’s next appearance will be at the Auckland summer meeting, when bs will be again pitted against Lysander in the Great Northern Derby. The pair are also engaged in the Royal Stakes, over six furlongs at the same fixture. Each will have to carry a 101'b penalty in the latter event, making their imposts 9.10.

Lady Cavendish has not been in work long, but she is booked to race at Feilding this month, and she should soon be leady to show good form again in important sprint races. Reremoana was not at his best at Riccarton, probably due to the fact that ho was just recovering from the effects of a blind boil on his cheek. He should be a much better horse by tho end of the year, when he may be seen at the Auckland Racing Club’s meeting.

There is a possibility of Bonny Logan and Becky Logan being retired to the stud this season. The Latter has been a good winner since F. G Holmes took her into bis stable.

The Addington trainer, P. Riddle, left for Auckland early in the week with Parkwood and Deanwood, to assist at the Otabuhu Trotting Club’s spring meeting today.

Arrangements have been made to tun a special train to Dunedin on Wednesday to convey horses engaged at the Forbury Park Trotting Club’s meeting next week. It is duo to arrive at 4.30 p.m. Added interest in the Otahuhu Trotting Club’s meeting is given to southerners by ttio fact that the Oamaru pacer. Final Jl'Kinney, is among the acceptors. WANGANUI TRAINING NOTES. (From Odb Speoia*. Correspondent ) WANGANUI, November 18. The Fordell team for the Feilding meeting will comprise Glenross, Raukura. Bank Note, Ruanui, Tamatete, and Limited. The first-named is to contest the Cup, Ruanui the two-year-old event on the second day, and Raukura and Bank Note the hack sprints. Tamatete and Limited are both in the Feilding Stakes of five furlongs, and this classic, by the way, promises to provide one of the finest contests seen on the course. Glenross has been awarded top weight (9-0) in the Cup, which is not a prohibitive impost, for he is up to the weight. He won the last Rangitikei Cup with -a pound less, but at Feilding his task will be much more formidable. When raced in the Debutante Stakes at Wanganui over a couple of months ago, the Leighton twoyear-old Paleta created such a favourable impression that he was bought by a local sportsman at a four-figure price. The gelding had apparently undergone a hurried preparation, but his new owner has given him a chance to mature, Paleta claims an engagement in the juvenile race on the second day of the Feilding meeting, but it is not certain that he will be a runner. His trainer (W. H. Dwyer) is still in hospital, and will be there for a while yet, so we may have to wait for the Manawatu meeting before seeing this smart Leighton gelding in action for a second time.

Great Day, in the same stable as Paleta, is also down to run at Feilding. where his owner resides, and as he is also a steward of the club, nothing would suit Mr R. J. Harper better than to win the race there. The Day Comet gelding ran a big race at Waverley when not thoroughly tuned up, and as he is a good weight carrier the 9.3 he has been awarded will not trouble him greatly. Since Waverley, Great Day has furnished well, and it appears to be only a question of bis ability to handle the turns. However, he has already won on the course, and he may do so again in the near future.

Walter Rayner will take four horses to Feilding—Lysander, Deluge, The Thorn, and the two-year-old Thaw. In the open sprint there Deluge, with 8.13, has all the weight he is entitled to. It is 18 months since the Absurd gelding won a race, notwithstanding which he still has pace if he would only do his best with the colours up. Lysander is to run in the Feilding Stakes, for which he will start a warm favourite. The Levin meeting is to be held tomorrow, and, with the Ashhurst fixture a few days later and the Feilding a week after, the form of the horses will be more than usually interesting. The going at Levin will be soft after much rain. They are a poor lot in the hurdles, and the issue appears to be between Bonecto and Matu. The former won this event last year, and has done nothing since, and it may be that Matu, who raced well on the flat at Trentham last month, will head him off. Our Jack strikes one as a likely proposition for the Weraroa Hack, and as he is up to the weight should account for Bronstell. It is in the latter’s favour that he will be racing on his homo course.

They are a poor lot in the Maiden. Kilmezzo has shown some form, and the three-year-old should this time improve on anything yet shown. Of the others, Molto and Dominion Rose may do best. The smallest field of the day will contest the Mako Mako Hack. Lin Arlington appears to be particularly well, and 1 will provide most opposition to the others. A field of 16 in the Cup presents a difficult problem. On his Otaki form Indian Sage stands out, followed by Despatch and Diogenes and Kilfairs. Bert Morris rides the top weight. The Lake Hack will find Our Jack difficult to dispose of, even in the event of his having earned the penalty for an earlier win. Outside of the top weight, Bonhomme, who claims an engagement in the Cup, they are a moderate lot. The principal short race is the M‘Donald Memorial, which is run over seven furlongs, a distance that should suit Star Area admirably. D. C. Watts will have the ride, and he will probably bd found seriously challenging First Acre (J. Barry) and Joy Bird. There are some brilliant hack sprinters engaged in the Hokio Hack, which makes up comparatively the best field of the day. The barrier draw will be watched with interest, and if Argue and Royal Fame secure good marbles they will fight it out. The former was unlucky at Waverley in running a dead heat after meeting with some trouble on the way. GOLF. BOGEY MATCH. A four-ball bogey match will be played on the St. Clair Links to-day.
