SHAW-SAVILL LINE.
NEW MOTOE CAEGO SHIPS
RECONSIDERATION OF BUILD: N PROGRAMME. (Feoai Ocb Own Coebespondent.j LONDON, October 8. A few weeks ago , it was definitely announced that the Shaw-Savili Company had cancelled the ordai for the ‘IO,OOO-ton motor liner which was to be built on the Tyne. Definite action has since been taken in tha matter of a substitution for the order, and in tha place of the liner three cargo motor ships of 11,000 tons each are to be built. Tha plans for theso vessels are now being gone into and the question of stability is having carsful consideration. It is thought that the subject of stability in relation to motor vessels has not so far received tha attention it deserves. The introduction of powerful intftnai combustion engines has brought in a set of factors not present in the steam-propelled ships. The matter of the other 20,000-ton liner which was to have been built on the Clyde, is still under consideration. It haa already been publicly stated that tga contract for this will probably be conceded, but there is no foundation at the present moment for this assumption. The directors of the shipping company held a board meeting today when the subject was discussed. Ons gathers that they are not anxious to go on with the ship under the present conditions and since the reduction of the freights, but it is likely that a decision will bs held in abeyance until the arrival of Mr Coates, the Prime Minister, when the matter will be laid before him. Should there be a cancellation of the order, a substitution sa in the case of the other liner will probably be made.
