LAWN TENNIS
» THE PROFESSIONAL TOUR. SUCCESS OF SCHEME DOUBTED. (Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright.) NEW YORK, September 27. (Received Sept. 28, at 5.5 p.m.) A variety of rumours concerning the visit of Mile Lenglen and other lawn tennis players to Australia has been branded as false by Mr C. C. Pyle, who states that the plans even for the American tour are not yet formulated. Mr Pyle six weeks ago announced that he hoped, after the Davis Cup matches and the national singles, to be able to engage a number of prominent male players for the American tour, but all the leading players denied their intention of turning professional. The likelihood of a world's tour for Mr Pyle's players is -generally doubted, as is the probability cf the success of the American tour, upon which the excursions abroad, including that to Australia, would depend. Mr Pyle at present has engaged only Mile Lenglen, Miss Mary Browne, and Paul Feret, and it is questioned whether these without considerable augmentations would be sufficient for payable exhibitions.—A. and N.Z. Cable.
