WAIKOUAITI BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The monthly meeting of the Waikouaiti Borough Council was held on Monday evening and was attended by the Mayor (Mr 11. Templeton), Crs 'Allcock, Hallett, Lang, M’Dougall, Mudgo and Smith. The Chief Inspector of Explosives, Wellington, wrote asking for a return of licenses issued up to September 30, together with a proportion of the fees charged for the storage of dangerous goods in the borough.—The letter was received, and the clerk was instructed to attend to tho matter. • The Inspector of Health wrote forwarding copies of letters sent to various residents of the borough with regard to the discharge of waste water from their premises.—Received. Tho Town Clerk, Dunedin, wrote acceding to tho council’s request that the Dunedin City Corporation be the licensing authority for tho purpose of issuing heavy .traffic licenses and collecting, the fees leviable under the motor lorry regulations.— The Secretary of the Australasian T. and G. Mutual Life Assurance Society wrote asking for information as to tho Sinking Fund in connection with the Borough Waterworks Loan, of which his society held debentures to the value of £6OOO. — The leiicr was received, the clerk to supply the information required. Tho Public Works Department, Wellington, forwarded an authority for the expenditure of £256 in general maintenance of the main road for the period ending March 31. 1927. tho subsidy payable thereon being £l2B. —Received. The Mayor reported regarding tho arrangements made in connection with the proposed visit of his Excellency the Gover-nor-General and party to Waikouaiti on October 12.—Approved. The totally inadequate system of lighting at the Waikouaiti and Beach street railway stations was again discussed, and the following resolution was unanimously carride — “That as no satisfaction can be obtained from tho district engineer of railways as regard# the installation of an effective system of lighting, the_ clerk be authorised to write to tho Minister of Railways asking him to look into the matter immediately and issue instructions that both the Waikouaiti and Reach street stations be lighted by electricity without further delay. It was decided to direct the attention of tho Inspector of Noxious -Weeds to the corse and broom which was crowing on certain of the borough streets. Accounts amounting to £ll3 7s 3d were passed for payment.
