PIGEON FLYING. DUNEDIN* CLUB. The Dunedin Homing Pigeon Club flew an interval race last Saturday from Ashburton, an airline distance of 149 miles, to the winner’s loft. The birds put up a good fly against a strong southerly wind. The winning birds were liberated at 11 a.m., and timed in at 2.42 p.tn., completing the journey in 3 hours 42 minutes. The station master at Ashburton (Mr M’Eachen) kindly liberated 16 pens, .representing 16 lofts, with the following results (in yards .per minute):—W. ’ Douglas’s Determination, 1181, 1; G. Moffiti’s Quickfire, and J. Still’s Wakari, 1179 (equal), 2: E. Diehl’s Recess, 1179, 4; F. Jones’s Silver Link, 1178, 5. Birds entered by J. Hargreaves, S. Lynn, A. Stevenson, G. Courts, A. Turnbull, J. Scoullar, F. Smith, A. Gillam, L. Tongs, A. Gillam, and C. Oliver, also flew. GOLF. ST. CLAIR CLUB. A flag match will be played on the St. Clair links to-day. He secured the fall in the twelfth round after two hours’ wrestling. LAWN TENNIS. AUCKLANDER’S SUCCESS. MISS MACFARLANE’S VICTORY. (Pee United Press Association.) AUCKLAND. September 27. A cable message has been received advising of Miss Marjorie Macfarlane’s success in the lawn tennis open tournament at Southport. This is the Auckland champion’s fifth success in tournaments in England. and follows her recent victory ■in the ladies’ singles in the Sheffield tournament. 'CROMWELL SUFFERS INJURY. (Press ,Association—By Telegraph—Copyright.) SYDNEY. September 27. While galloping at Randwick the Derbycandidate Cromwell - seriously injured the sinews of bis front leg. It is reported that he will be withdrawn from all engagements at the spring meeting. LIMERICK’S MINOR INJURY. SYDNEY, September 27. (Received Sept. • 28, at 1 a.m.) The trainer of Cromwell states that the horse will have to be scratched for all his Jockey Club engagements, and it is problematical if he runs in the Victorian Derby. . Limerick has also developed trouble in one of his joints, but fortunately it is not so serious as Cromwell’s. He bruised his heel, but after treatment and a special bar shoe had been made he was able to canter to-day, when ho appeared to be a great deal easier.
