RAZORS FOR THE ARMY
CONTRACT GOES TO AMERICA. INDIGNANT PROTESTS AROUSED. (Frea» Association —By Telegraph—Copyright.) LONDON, September 24, (Received Sept. 24, at 10 p.m.) The Daily Express understands that an American safety razor will be substituted for the old type for the whole of ‘he British Army, the strength of which, excluding the Indian and other oversea forces is approximately 142,000. An official of the War Office said: “We are in exactly the same position as everybody else. We must buy in the cheapest market. The taxpayer in a case like this must be considered before patriotism. The manager of the company which has secured the contract said: “The razors will be made in our factory at Slough and the blades in Montreal, where we also have a factory.’ ’ The Daily Express adds: “It is believed that the successful tender _ was only slightly lower than those of British firms. Mr W. J. Wyatt, principal of the firm which supplies safety razors to the navy, said that it was criminal for the Government to place a large order outside the country at present. His firm was not invited to tender. —A. and N.Z. Cable.
