TAIKAPE FREEZING WORKS.
LOSS ON YEAR’S WORKING. DECREASED KILLINGS RECORDED. (Fbom Odb Own Cobeesponuent.) TAIHAPE. September 24. The Taihape Freezing Works suffered another slight loss on the year's working, the annual report disclosing a deficit of £459 15s and the debit balance being increased to £2042 IVs Id. the annual report stated that, owing to the late spring and the relatively low prices for beef, the number of cattle supplied this season showed a considerable decrease, and sheep and lambs were supplied in increased numbers, but ow ing to the fall in the number of cuttle killed the gross returns were practically the same aa the previous season. The gross return from Fcilding was £3*o less than the previous year, due to a decrease in the cattle killed. The only matter neoding explanation was why the directors had not decided to go into liquidation. There were two reasons, one of which was sentimental, and the other that quite a number of shareholders were involved by being in arrears with their calls. 1 o go into liquidation, therefore, would compel these shareholders to pay up which would be a groat hardship. At the present time, it, was pointed out, the normal annual output of the district was about 80,000 carcases ot which only 26.000 went through the company’s hands. The directors considered they were justified in risking a small further loss, and giving (he a chance of saving something in the washing-up. It was decided to carry on and issue a circular to shareholders stressing the necessity of supplying stock to the company through the Feilding works.
