EXPOSING LIQUOR FOR SALE.
LICENSEE NOT RESPONSIBLE. THE CHARGE DISMISSED. (Peb United ’bess Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, September 22. An information against Vincent Goulding, the licensee of the Black Horse Hotel, Lincoln road, of exposing liquor for sale after hours was dismissed by Mr H. P. Lawry, S.M., when he gave his reserved decision. The case was one where several men were found by the police on the premises on a Sunday morning, the bar then being open. The Magistrate said that defendant set tip the defence —apart from a denial of the exposure at all —that he was not responsible for an exposure, if there wCre one, because the barman was not authorised to sell, except between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. on week days. At the time the police entered the hotel the licensee was in bed, and the barman had obtained the keys. The bar had been opened for the purpose of cleaning up on Sunday morning. The magistrate said he must find that there was no exposure for sale for which the licensee was responsible. The information would therefore be dismissed.
