RUGBY FOOTBALL
NEW SOUTH WALES TEAM’S TOUR. ONE-SIDED FINANCIAL ARRANGEMENT. (Press Association—By Telegraph—Copy rich' LONDON, September 21. (Received Sept. 22, at 9 p.m.) The Evening News states that the International Rugby Board’s committee, which is arranging for the New South Wales tour, is budgeting for £16,000 to cover the expenses, and this sum must be realised before anything is available for the Homo clubs and unions. A large surplus, however, is anticipated. The paper points out that in view of the team’s increased travelling expenses it is unlikely that the British clubs and unions will divide such a large profit as that from the New Zealand tour in 1924-25, which realised £4OOO. It adds that there is certain to be Australian and New Zealand criticism over the Home clubs and unions taking the whole of the profits. It is true that the overseas unions agreed that the visitors should not participate in the profits, but when they agreed to that neither Australia nor New Zealand contemplated that Britain would not reciprocate by sending a team overseas. It is estimated that as a result of the arrangement the English and Irish clubs will benefit to the extent of £IIO,OOO from the two tours, whereas New South Wales and Now Zealand, wlioso teams brought this money, will not benefit hy a penny. It is fair criticism to say that this is altogether one-sided. —Sydney Sun Cable.
