The China merchant steamer Kifcanplee, from Shanghai to Canton, was within sight of Hongkong when six pirates—two of whom were the ship’s quartermasters—forced Captain Tollefsen and the other Europeans at the revolver point into the second officer’s cabin. The Kwnnglce was taken to the pirates’ stronghold, where she grounded. The pirates reached the shore, taking 200,000 dollars worth of loot and six wealthy Chinese for ransom. The Kwanglee was refloated and arrived at Canton.—A. and N Z Cable.
