BUS REGULATIONS.
FARES AM) INSURANCE, A MINISTERIAL STATEMENT. (Feb i'kited Press Association.) WELLINGTON, July 7. The Chamber of Commerce, in reply to representations in regard to motor buses, had a letter from the Hon. K. S. Williams (Minister of Public Works) before it, in which he pointed out that under the regulations, as amended, there would be the right of appeal against the extra 2d charge, and also if corporations fixed lower charges on their buses than on private ones. As to insurance, he quoted instances in Christchurch and Wellington where sums up to £21,000 had been paid for tramway accidents, and, therefore, the amount fixed for buses was not unreasonable, especially as they were more liable to accident than trams. In other places inquiries showed that buses were not allowed to compete with trams, and yet the number of the former had increased. The chamber decided to take no further action.
