STEAMER COOMA ASHORE.

GROUNDED ON THE NORTH REEF. (Peb United Press Associa ion ' WELLINGTON, July 7. The Secretary of the Post and Telegraph Department has received the following wireless message* which was broadcasted from Sydney by radio at 7.47 p m : “S.O.S. The steamer Cooma is ashore on the North Reef.” The vessel is in communication with the Australian stations. VESSEL IN DANGER. (Pee Unitei Peers Association.) WELLINGTON. July 7. . The Secretary of the Post and Telegraph Department received the following message by radio at 8.59 p.m.: “Cooma has advised Townsville byradio: ‘ln danger. Ship bumping heavily. Want .assistance as soon as possible.’ ” Nothing further has been received since owing to interference from Australian stations. RESCUE SHIP EXPECTED. NO IMMEDIATE DANGER. (Peb Ijv/rrti l-wtu ahmjdutkw.i WELLINGTON, July 7. The Secretary of the Post and Telegraph Department received the following wireless message at_ 10.45 p.m.: —“S.s. Cooma reports position of wreck as being alongside lighthouse on North Reef. The weather is fine. Unidentified rescue ship expected 10.30 p.m. (Australian time), when passengers will be landed. No immediate danger. Vessel making little water.” The Cooma is a steel vessel of 3839 tons, and was bnilt at Glasgow in 1907 by Messrs A. Stephen and Sons (Ltd.). Her dimensions are: Length 330 ft, breadth 46ft, depth 21ft 4in.
