A PENSIONER FINED.

MISSTATEMENT OF INCOME. (Per United Press Association.) WATMATE, July 7. A fine of £lO, and costs, in default one. month’s hard labour, was imposed by the Magistrate (Dir E. D. Mosley) on Thomas George Loper, a married man with two children, a relumed soldier, who was receiving disability and economic pensions. Accused pleaded guilty to representing falsely to the pensions -officer that he had earned nothing for two months, and had thereby received £l3 to which he was not entitled. An investigation showed that during the period his earnings totalled £3O 18s. The Magistrate said the sentence was a severe one in order to deter others. Ho added that the maximum penalty was a fine of £IOO, in default two months’ imprisonment.
