A CROSSING COLLISION. WOMAN SERIOUSLY INJURED. (Per Ukited Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, May 81. A serious accident occurred at 5.15 p-D*. on Saturday, when a motor car driven by Stanley Walker, of Christchurch, co.lliaed with the Christ church-Southbridge tram at Prebbleton crossing. There were (our adult passengers, two children, and two infant* in the car at the time. Mrs Lucy Gamble, Grafton street, was the only passenger to .eceive serious injury. She was taken to Christchurch Hpspital suffering from concussion of the brain. The driver haa his left leg hurt and his body severely bru’sed Walker did not hear the warning whistle, and, thinking that the line was clear, hs prepared to cross it. However, when a few feet from the line he saw the tram, and immediately applied his brakes. The car swerved, but the driver could not dear the train and dashed into the rear of the engine, the cat being smashed to pieces. The injured w ,-ie conveyed to Lincoln in the euard's van. Mrs Gamble's condition is now improving. The others have returned to their home*.
