THE PENRITH TRAGEDY. WATSON HELD TO BE INSANE. {Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright.) SYDNEY, May 31. (Received May 31, at 9 p.m.) At the trial of Alfred Watson who was charged with the murder of his daughter Ada the jury returned a verdict of not guilty on the ground of insanity. Waist' u was ordered to be detained during the Governor’s pleasure. Alfred Watson, aged 65, a school teacher at Penrith, was arrested on March 17 on a charge of having murdered his daughter Ada, aged 22. It was stated that Watson struck the girl heavily on the head with a hammer and later, during the absence of his son to secure a doctor, again attacked her with an axe. After the tragedy ho is said to have told his son that he committed the crime because he was afraid that owing to his financial troubles his daughter would bo cast upon the world. He had suffered from depression for a considerable time. On the morning of the tragedy he was to have left for a holiday with his daughter, to whom he was greatly attached. BLAZE IN A FACTORY. SYDNEY, May 31. Fire in a factory in Holt street yester-’ did damage estimated at £50,000.
